Ministries
Laban Bible Institute
In 1979 Jim & Nancy fulfilled the vision of Dr. Laban by opening a Bible School. It’s purpose was to train nationals to reach other nationals for Christ. What began with only 7 students in a one room building has developed into a thriving center in which men and women receive training to better serve Christ’s church.
Each student is instructed in the Old & New Testaments, essential doctrines, Christian family living, and in depth studies of the Bible. This ministry translates into hundreds of graduates reaching thousands of Congolese with the gospel of Christ.
- Over 550 students have graduated Laban Bible Institute
- Over 300 churches have been started by our graduates
- Over 50,000 people are attending churches that our graduates lead
What We Pray For:
- The wisdom & protection of our future & current graduates serving Christ
- LMI’s instuctors to become more and more equipped at equipping others
Evangelism Teams
Reaching the lost with the gospel is Laban’s heartbeat. In 2010 alone, 5,000 souls came to Christ in a matter of 4 months. That translates to 312 souls a week! These numbers are hard to grasp but not hard to accomplish. Africa is a dark place, full of witchcraft and superstition but the light of God is shining and transforming lives right before our eyes!
Students along with instructors load our vehicles with fuel, food, tents, guitars, drums, blankets, water, and shovels and hit the road every possible weekend. All in the hopes of seeing their fellow nationals come to Christ. This is what we believe has sustained LMI while most missionaries have left the Congo. This is the heart of Laban because we believe it is the heart of God.
- Over 650,000 have come to Christ since 1978
- 8,000 made professions of faith in 2010 alone
- This past year efforts translated to over 150 souls a week making professions
What We Pray For:
- God’s continued blessing on our evangelism efforts
- Doors to continue opening in villages, towns, and cities
The Women’s Literacy Center
Women have been uniquely gifted by God to help direct their families toward Christ. In Congo this proves difficult simply because most of them can’t read the words of Christ. For them, looking at a page of the Bible is like us trying to read a foreign language. That is why in 2004 LMI opened the Women’s Literacy Center. The Center opened it’s doors with 13 female students using the Bible as their source in learning to read and write.
Today, there are over 90 women enrolled and almost half of them made professions of faith this past year. Along with studying different books of the Bible, the women also learn to knit, crochet, and needlepoint. These life skills are changing the families around us.
- 48 of the 94 female students accepted Christ last year
- Families are changing for the glory of Christ
- Women are learning of the love of God through Jesus Christ
We We Pray For:
- Wisdom for the instuctors
- Families to be unified through Christ
Radio Glory!
In 2004, LMI began broadcasting the hope of Jesus Christ to the people of Congo. We had no idea what kind of an impact the station would make on the surrounding villages and have been awed at how God has used this tool to glorify His name. Radio Glory is the most cost-effective way to deliver the gospel message of Christ.
Radio Glory has a listening audience of millions and is listened to more than all other stations combined! The Congolese can hear the preaching of God’s Word, enjoy Christian music, and be discipled through the teaching that occurs every day through its broadcasts. We often hear of individuals, families, and villages that have never met LMI in person but share how they have come to Christ through the airwaves.
- The untold number of souls changed for Christ
- Radio Glory’s popularity with the Congolese
What We Pray For:
- Continued blessings on the technical equipment
- Protection from weather related issues
